After studying Interior Design and Art in college, finding the time and ‘permission’ to seriously pursue painting did not occur until after 3 career retirements and a period of living in Baja Sur, Mexico.
Much of my color palette and subject matter can be traced to the tropics, although my affinity for the Southwest was established long before. Living in Baja brought a new appreciation for the arid tropical desert where it joins with the ocean and mountains.
My artistic attention is on the repetitions in life and nature - time and place - organic and inorganic - the memories that we hold or that hold us. And how the details of remembrances fade and may become unrecognizable with time, eventually lost to imagination.
The resulting art plays between this abstracted realism and imagination.
